Balkan amateur chess festival Belogradchik 2013

The fourth Balkan amateur
chess festival in Belogradchik gathered 120 participants
from 12 countries.
The festival was officially
opened with a demonstrative game played
by the mayor Boris Nikolov and the festival coach - GM Aleksander
Delchev. In about 10 moves the mayor lost his queen, but
managed to give perpetual check and the game ended peacefully.

plenty of surprises. Half od the the results at the first
ten tables favour the less rated players, which was a sign
for strong battle. In sixth round the tournament leaders
became visible after the games Nino Vlashki - Rosen Ilchov
and Jovan Rasic - Rumen Nikolov. Ultimately Nino
Vlashki gained 8 points out of 9 and deserved the
first place. Second with 7,5points became Rumen
Nikolov with fide rating 1927 and performance of
2475. So, he took also the cups for players rated under
2000 and players up to 18 years. Third ranked Petar
Janchev from Shumen with 7 points
52 prizes of total 7500 euro
were distributed to the participants in the festival. The
first three prizes for players under 2000 received Georgi
Bardarov and Nikolay Hristov from
Bulgaria and Toni Lazov from Macedonia.
First among the veterans ranked fm Slobodan Radoslavljevic
from Serbia and Matey Petkov took the cup
for under 14.
The female battle on the chessfiled
was won by wim Stefi Bednikova, but selecting
a chess queen was far more difficult. The 10-years old princess
Gergana Peycheva and the charming chinesse
Shu Wang were very close, but the majority
of votes went to Geri, who is the current queen!
The individual blitz tournament
was won by Zoran Zlatanovic from Bor and
in the team blitz triumphed the couples Pavel Janev
- Goran Krastev, followed by Zivkovic - Miljkovic
and Nikolov - Kirov.
The masters class held by
GM Delchev was highly instructive and interesting
as always. It started with analyses of the work of the chess
phenomenon Borislav Ivanov and then continued in the nex
days with the topics - calculation of variations, strategy,

fund of 7500euro.

sediment processes now over a surface of 30 sq.km you can
see rocks in amazing forms and shapes, that people gave
different names: the Schoolgirl, the Monk, the Bear, etc.

The top Bulgarian Grandmaster
Aleksander Delchev will give free evening
during the festival and will be available to train and prepare
participants during the whole tournament for a small fee.
Along with the main tournament
you can try your chess power at two blitz tournaments:
blitz for teams with total rating up to 4100 and individual
blitz for players up to 2250 elo points.
Friday night will be the
queen of the festival night at the disco
of the venue hotel.
You can also sign up for
one of the 3 daily excursions around Belogradchik.
The Magura cave, the Baba Vida fortress, mountain biking
around the cliffs.

At the team blitz
tournament winners are Lyubomir and Radi Danov!
The individual blitz
tournament was won by the Serbian player FM Djordje
Popovic. Second and third ranked the Romanian Rodel Rujan
and the Bulgarian Toma Kirjakov
The participants in the
festival voted for festival queen on Friday
night! The new queen of the Festival is Maria Manelidou
The Bulgarian GM
Alexander Delchev made 4 lectures devoted on funny
and very instructive moments from the games of the participants
in the tournament.
The final round was a remarkable
example of fair play and chess fight. The winner of the
tournament is Borislav Ivanov from Blagoevgrad
with 8 points, followed by Boil Banov and Angel Janachkov
with 7,5 points.
